better minds prevail [23 Sep 2005|12:13am]
whoa... long time no update. i was going to start posting on that blog i started, but i realized that no one really wants to go out of the way to go to another site, especially if it is mine haha.

anyway, how's everyone doing? i'm doing great.

things have been going really well since krystal moved in.

work stuff has also been going pretty well. what have i been working on? good question!

my buddy chris (owner of ascend apparel) and i decided to start a media marketing group. it's going to be awesome. the website is looking super rad. main graphic and layout were done by him. backline, css and cross browser junk done by me. i'll post the finished product as soon as it's up and running. be excited!

i've been doing a lot for takeover lately. booking a tour for heymike!, promoting takeover tv, promoting sign my band contest, and now i'm working on the official Takeover Records japanese website. it's gonna be so awesome. matt did the main logo and navigation but the rest of it is in my hands. im really excited about this.

i'm really excited for what we have in store for heymike!. their new record is so great. think lagwagon meets something else really rad.

i've also been doing a little work with Mike Davenport, of the ataris, other band Versus the World. really awesome. i'm sending them out on that heymike! tour as well.

anyway, i'm done here for now. hope i didn't bore you too much.

love,
justin ryan

come on [23 Aug 2005|09:02pm]
so, at this moment, I'm sitting in the back of my parents car. we're on our way to jacksonville, north carolina for my sisters wedding. we left the house at around noon and we still have another half hour+ to go. 11 hours. wow. remind me to never take a ride to nc again. it seems longer than the kansas trip to see the get up kids, and that was 20 hours.

the past week or so has been hard. the viewings and funeral for my nana were very hard for me to be at. its hard to think that she is really gone.. but anyway, lets not think/talk about that.

I have another blog now. hopefully, I won't neglect this.

This moment. This simple everlasting moment of existence
is the summit of our life. In this moment our reality tunnels
move about in an intricate web of possibilities.
If we can perceive it. We can actualize it.
The more we experience and learn the stronger our belief systems grow
But there is a problem.
Two entities already monopolize the belief system market
Religious institutions, along with political and economic ideologies
violently compete between one another. Each with the goal
of spreading their interpretation of existence as the one true answer
Always question the motives of an institution that so blatantly
uses fear to maintain influence. You know, terrorist attacks and eternal damnation
in a lake of fire. Obviously some are more clever than others.
Believe only what you yourself test and judge to be true
We are limitless under the laws of free will and free thought
Blind faith may appear safe but I would encourage us all
to discover our own distinct vision of existence.
This simple ever lasting moment of existence.
There is no absolute reality. There is no absolute reality.
There is no absolute reality.

[ music | stole your women ]

So, yesterday was camden's warped tour date. I wasn't sure I'd make it but, lucily, my friend lisa gave me a ride. I felt bad because she wasn't really having a good time, though. I, on the other hand, did have a little fun. My American Heart and Circa Survive played really well. I caught part of Acceptance, which was really awesome, and part of Gratitude. Jonah screamed a little too much, in my opinion, but they were still good. I also saw bits and peices of The Transplants (just to watch travis drum), Fall Out Boy, Relient K, My Chemical Romance (yuck), Monty (amazing), Hawthorne Heights (yuck), Emery, and a bunch of other bands. I finally got to meet Matt at the Takeover tent and a few other people from the takeover staff. Hung out with Over It for a few minutes, and then went home. but not empty handed....

my little batch of demo's to listen to for the Sign My Band Contest.
if you don't know what that is, check it out! http://myspace.com/signmybandcontest

also, check out the new contest i just launched today! http://heycontest.poppunklove.com. thanks to craig at poppunklove.com for hosting it!

hiplog 1 [11 Aug 2005|03:47pm]
weird. I've never made a post from my sidekick before. this thing rules.

right now, I am in the backseat of my sister's fience's car. that's right, josh asked my sister to marry her last night, and she said yes. congratulations. anyway, we are on our way to go visit my great grandmother at the rehabilitation/nursing home. she's been very sick lately, I hope she is okay.

after that, we are going out for my aunts birthday, should be fun times.

krystal moves in on september first. thankfully, her parents have been a little easier on her about it, lately but, that could change at anytime. hopefully, it won't. I can't even begin to explain how this feels. it's so amazing that she will be here everyday. and it's also such a big thing. such a big step, but I know it's for the best. I couldn't be happier.

the seatbelt keeps getting too tight, and it won't adjust. I'm going insane. haha.

there's so many things I wanted to say on here, but I can't remember. things come to me at night and when I wake up in the morning sometimes. I should start making notes of it on my sidekick. lately, everyone in my neighborhood has been riding bikes. I don't know why, but there is something about riding bikes that makes me think of being young. I guess maybe because I used to love riding my bike when I was little? I'm not sure where I'm going with this... but anyway, I miss being young. I'm going to be 19 in less than a month, and it seems so scary. I miss the innocence and not worrying, but being older has brought me so many amazing things. I guess it's really win-win, if you look at it the right way.

anyway, I'm starting to gett carsick from typing this.

leave me some love via comments? especially if you are some new/random reader. that'd be awesome.

love,
justin ryan

from the ticket desk to the baggage check, you felt so cold. last kisses for proper etiquette, before you let me go.

it's funny how on the ride home from the airport, i can think of a million things to say, but once i get here and open this up, i'm blank. the past week was unreal.

i'm sorry to all of my friends for being so out of touch. between krystal being here saturday-saturday and all the work i'm doing for takeover, i've been sort of swamped. i swear i'll make it up to you. i have so much to talk about. so much went on this week. so much.

maybe later. i need to let all the greatness of life soak in, first.

wow. it's been a while since i've actually posted here. i'm not sure if it was lack of motivation, laziness, lack of comments, or a wicked combination of both. either way, here i am. life has been good lately. it's funny how it all finally started to work out. i guess everyone was right. after life gives you "lemons" for so long, you are bound to have something go your way. *hopefully, it's more OUR WAY, than just MY way.)

today was the forth of july. while everyone was out (just) watching fireworks tonight, i slept. honestly. from 6 until 10:15. i used to get really excited about fireworks and the forth of july. it's funny how much things change in a few short years, and how personal experiences can sort of ruin a holiday; taking away it's innocence. next year, it will be different, and better.

krystal will be back on july 15th and i couldn't be happier. i can't help but think about her having to leave, though. i know i shouldn't think about it, and maybe it seems selfish, but i can't help it.

i feel like i had a lot more to post here, but i'm too tired.
tomorrow?

maybe means yes.

[02 Jul 2005|11:37pm]
Our tragedy today is a general and universal physical fear so long sustained by now that we can even bear it. There are no longer problems of the spirit. There is only one question: When will I be blown up? Because of this, the young man or woman writing today has forgotten the problems of the human heart in conflict with itself which alone can make good writing because only that is worth writing about, worth the agony and the sweat. He must learn them again. He must teach himself that the basest of all things is to be afraid: and, teaching himself that, forget it forever, leaving no room in his workshop for anything but the old verities and truths of the heart, the universal truths lacking which any story is ephemeral and doomed--love and honor and pity and pride and compassion and sacrifice. Until he does so, he labors under a curse. He writes not of love but of lust, of defeats in which nobody loses anything of value, and victories without hope and worst of all, without pity or compassion. His griefs grieve on no universal bones, leaving no scars. He writes not of the heart but of the glands.

Until he learns these things, he will write as though he stood among and watched the end of man. I decline to accept the end of man. It is easy enough to say that man is immortal because he will endure: that when the last ding-dong of doom has clanged and faded from the last worthless rock hanging tideless in the last red and dying evening, that even then there will still be one more sound: that of his puny inexhaustible voice, still talking. I refuse to accept this. I believe that man will not merely endure: he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance. The poet's, the writer's, duty is to write about these things. It is his privilege to help man endure by lifting his heart, by reminding him of the courage and honor and hope and pride and compassion and pity and sacrifice which have been the glory of his past. The poet's voice need not merely be the record of man, it can be one of the props, the pillars to help him endure and prevail.
